Varela Withdraws From Council Race

PRESS RELEASE

“Varela Withdraws from council race”

After acknowledging a lack of required valid signatures, Mr. Varela submitted paperwork to the Flagstaff City Clerk withdrawing from the City Council race. We wish him the best.

A citizens group of volunteers verified all of the candidates’ signatures and found that Mr. Varela did not have the required 771 valid signatures for inclusion on the ballot.   A lawsuit was filed by Stuart McDaniel in Superior Court challenging the 283 questionable signatures.

We would like to thank the citizen group of volunteers who worked so hard to ensure election integrity.

Mr. Varela’s voluntary withdrawal from the City Council race reduced the number of candidates to six which eliminates the need for the city primary election in August.

PRESS RELEASE: JUNE 13, 2016

GREAT CIRCLE MEDIA/KAFF NEWS TO HOST “MEET THE CANDIDATES” EVENT FOR FLAGSTAFF MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES.

(Flagstaff, AZ) – Great Circle Media and KAFF News is hosting a “Meet The Candidates” event, Monday, June 27th from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at The Oakmont Restaurant in east Flagstaff. Candidates for Flagstaff Mayor and the Flagstaff City Council will be attending the event to meet voters and talk about issues facing Flagstaff in the future. At 6 p.m., each candidate will have the opportunity to give a statement to those gathered about their campaign and what they will bring to the office they are seeking. There will be plenty of time for voters to meet and talk to the candidates on a one-on-one basis. This is the first of many forums and debates that groups will have during the election season. Both mayoral candidates, Mayor Jerry Nabours and city councilwoman Coral Evans will be in attendance as will all of the candidates for city council. The event is free and open to the public. So come to the Oakmont Restaurant for your first chance to meet the candidates and ask questions of those running for office.
