Book Review: The Acrylic Painter

The Acrylic Painter by James Van Patten is your one stop introduction to the ever expanding and changing medium of acrylic painting. This book is the perfect introduction as the author leaves no stone unturned, covering everything from the history of acrylics to beginner basics to advanced techniques.

Especially impressing is the attention of detail given to the variety of acrylic paints and the tools involved in creating the perfect painting. There is even a section on stretching your own canvass. I am was fairly knowledgeable about the medium but still learned a lot.

With such a glut of art instruction books on the market it is hard to find books that stand out and deserve special attention. This book is one of the few and is essential for the library shelf of every artist…even those who don’t specialize in acrylics. With a concise writing style and vast knowledge, there is more in this volume than your average 166 page book.

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
